Wrap It Up

•  Try before you buy

•  Read reviews

•  If you like it, use it

•  Buy what you need, not what looks cool.  Save the extra money for better instruments, mics, and cables.

•  Buy equipment made by reputable  manufacturers.  Quality is key.

•  Spread your money evenly across your whole studio.  If you're forced to skimp, don't buy.  Wait untill you have the money you need.

•  Read the fine print (spec sheets) available on the web

•  Buy online and take advantage of "Price Match Guarantees"

•  Be aware of how versatile a piece of equipment is and identify if it will grow with you and your studio.

•  Starting from the top of the line, computer components drop in price exponentially, so be smart.  Don't buy the best, buy the stuff that was the best 6 months ago.

•  If the instruments/musicians you are recording sound bad, so will the recording.
