CONFIGURATION SCREENS GUIDE

tmd8k2eq.gif (6235 bytes)

2 EQ BUTTON SCREEN

The 2 EQ configuration screen displays the controls and a frequency response of two channels of equalization.  This is used for copying the EQ settings from one channel to another. You can only see the settings for two bands of each EQ but the "Low", "Lo-Mid", "Hi-Mid" and "High" buttons allow you to see the different sections.  Frequency response graphs are given for each channel's settings. The Copy buttons allow the EQ to be copied to the other channel.

tmd8kpan.gif (6049 bytes)

PAN SCREEN

The Pan configuration screen shows you the pan pot positions for 16 of the board's channels.  Continuing to push this button changes which channels are displayed.

tmd8kasn.gif (8172 bytes)

ASSIGN SCREEN

The Assign configuration screen shows the assignment of all channels to recording busses ("1-8"), the mix buss ("ST") or directly to a tape machine track ("D"). Pushing it repeatedly will flip the screen between the main channel faders & Stereo Returns and the MTR faders.

tmd8katt.gif (5514 bytes)

PAD SCREEN

The Pad Screen shows the setting for 16 of  the channels' digital pads and shows if the channel's polarity ("phase") is reversed. Multiple screens are accessible to see all channels and continuing to push this button changes which channels are displayed.

tmd8kax1.gif (6550 bytes)

AUX 1-6 SCREENS

The Aux configuration screen shows you the level of the aux sends for 16 of the board's channels for the aux send number associated with the button.  Continuing to push this button changes which channels are displayed.

tmd8kdio.gif (6707 bytes)

DIO SCREEN 1

The first screen under the DIO button allows you to select the source for signals coming into the console channels and the DIO connectors used for digital inputs and outputs.
Regular channels can receive input from analog source (mic or line input) or from the two additional T-DIF connectors
Tape Return channels can receive the signal returning or the signal being sent to the MDM.
Digital in 1 & 2 can come from XLR (AES/EBU Pro Format) or Co-Axial (SPDIF/Consumers Format).  Outputs can be AES/EBU Pro or Consumer's (SPDIF).

tmd8kclk.gif (6868 bytes)

DIO SCREEN 3

This screen allows you to set the word clock reference.   The screen is fairly self-explanatory.

Word-Out Polarity refers to switching left & right signals (when reversed).

tmd8kwdl.gif (6018 bytes)

DIO SCREEN 2
The third DIO screen allows you to set the Word Length in and out, and Word Offset of the TM-D8000.

The Word Offset can be used if you are getting inexpicable digital noise on one machine in Record.   The reasons for this are explained in the TM-D8000 manual that comes with the console.

tmd8kfad.gif (7090 bytes)

FADER POSITION SCREEN

The Fader Position screen shows all fader positions for all channels. This may be different than the physical fader position, due to, for example, automation or a screen flip.  A second screen shows the fader position for group master faders.

tmd8kmas.gif (7660 bytes)

MASTER SCREEN

The Master screen shows the gain control positions for all buss masters and provides metering of signal level in busses.  Masters for recording busses and aux busses are shown. The Stereo Link function allows odd and even aux sends to be used as a stereo send.

tmd8kdel.gif (6978 bytes)

DELAY SCREEN

The Delay Screen allows you to delay each channel individually - so as to allow you to put different channels in time with each other.  You can delay a channel by a number of samples or a number of 10s of a millisecond.  Pushing the button repeatedly allows you to access different channels.

tmd8kstl.gif (5083 bytes)

STEREO LINK SCREEN

The Stereo Link screen allows the user to link two channels together into a stereo pair.

Note that only an odd numbered channel and the next even numbered channel can be linked this way.  For example, Channels 5 & 6 can be linked but not 4 & 5 or 7 & 6.

MACHINE CONTROL SCREEN (MIDI SCREEN 2)

This is the second of the Midi Screens.  The TM-D8000 has built into it the ability to operate many different devices as a remote control, allow ing the user to control his devices directly from the console and not to have to either a) get up and operate devices or b) to have several different remote controls lying about. Note that some devices, e.g. DA 88s, can be controlled directly, and some, e.g. Alesis ADAT, require an extra accessory to allow direct control from the console.   These accessories are, however, inexpensive and do make up for the expense in convenience. The first and third MIDI screen is desribed below.

tmd8kmid.gif (7061 bytes)

MIDI SCREEN 1

The MIDI screen allows the user to control the different MIDI options of the TM-D8000.  This is used, for example, when dumping MIDI data to save internal memory, to link sequencers using MIDI time code, and with the Mac Host when using automation.  Also, when machine control is activated, it controls how the machines recieve transport controls.

The third MIDI screen (not shown here) is for use with GPI ports (used to interact with devices connected using GPI ports, after being activated in the MMC screen).

tmd8kdyn.gif (8013 bytes)

DYNAMICS CHANNELS SCREEN
The Dynamics screen allows the user to control different parameters of a dyamics channel that has been assigned to a track or input channel.

The user can flip between the different Dynamics channels by pushing the button repeatedly or pushing the POD buttons as indicated. There are a total of 8 dynamics channels.  The individual dynamics channels can be assigned by using the Insertion Screen - described next.

tmd8kins.gif (7799 bytes)

INSERTION SCREEN

The Insertion Screen allows the user to assign either a Dynamics Channel or an Analog Mix Insert to any channel on the TM-D8000.

tmd8kgrp.gif (5687 bytes)

GROUPING SCREEN

The Grouping screen allows you to assign channels to any of 4 Cut Groups and any of 4 Fader Groups.  These are controls by the Cut and Fader Group Master controls, located at the lower right-hand corner of the console.

tmd8kopt.gif (6673 bytes)

OPTIONS SCREEN (SCREEN 1)

The Options button may be pushed to allow you access to different options that you can set. Things that can be set are, for example, the Time Code Display of the console, swapping faders between MTR and CH/ST RTN.

Another Option screen (not shown here) allows you to setup the TM-D8000 for Surround Sound.

The other Option screens, In-Place Solo Defeat and Routing Library, are described below.

tmd8kdft.gif (4917 bytes)

INPLACE SOLO DEFEAT (OPTIONS SCREEN 2)
This Option screen, used for Mixing Solos, allows you to defeat the automatic Cut function associated with an Inplace (Mixing) Solo.   This can be used for things like Reverb.

tmd8krtl.gif (7019 bytes)

ROUTING LIBRARY (OPTIONS SCREEN 4)

The Routing Library allows you to save specific routings you may routinely use, so that you do not have to reset them each time.

tmd8kexc.gif (7698 bytes)

EXTERNAL CONTROL

The External Control screen allows remote control of machines that have that option in the MMC screen, e.g. DA88 & DA38.

Things like advance delay of individual tracks, Word Clock selection, offset time and TC Generator can be controlled from this screen.

The number of External Conrol screens will be determined by the number of remote devices that have External Control activated.  Scroll through the different machines by repeatedly pressing the button.

tmd8kaut.gif (6372 bytes)

AUTOMATION SETUP
The Automation Setup screen allows you to control the communication with the Mac Host (necessary for automation) and what is automated.
