Mac Host
The console is set up to do complete automation with a Power-Mac host.  There is a Mac serial port on the TMD8000.  Complete automation software is supplied with the console.  There is a SMPTE Time Code input jack that allows the console to know the tape location and do the changes at the correct tape position.
Snapshot (Scene) Automation
Snapshots can be stored in the internal memory of the TMD8000.   A snapshot is the position of every digital control in the console.  There are 99 snapshot memory locations in the TMD8000.  Automation can be achieved by automatically recalling a snapshot at the correct part of the tune.  This snapshot automation can be accomplished with the Mac host or by any sequencer sending MIDI Program Change commands to the console.
Dynamic ("Full") Automation
With the Mac host, dynamic automation can be obtained where controls are moved in time to the music and, upon playback, those changes will be made again.  Each fader has built in indicators for automation mores of "Read, Write and Update"
"Write" is the automation mode where the operator is making changes and the Mac computer is recording data about the changes made.   "Read" is the mode where the computer is controlling the parameters in the console."  "Update" is a mode where the operator makes changes that add to or subtract from changes previously programmed.  The TMD8000 has channel automation status indicators above the faders on the console.
