The TD-M8000  has five DIO (Digital In and Out) ports that accept T-DIF connectors for the multitrack recorders. One can hookup 5 Tascam multitrack digital machines for 40 track production and mixdown.   Unlike other digital consoles that allow you to get different formats that plug into slots in the console, Tascam has standardized on the T-Dif format.  Tascam however, makes very inexpensive converters that convert to ADAT format and analog inputs or outputs. As a result, it is very easy to convert to different formats for different projects and uses.
Other DIO Connectors include:
Stereo Outputs (for connecting to Dat recorder)
Aux Send 3/4 (for connecting to a digital input of effects device)
Stereo Return 6 (for connecting to the digital output of an effects device)
Digital In 1-4 (for connecting to other digital source)
