I just finished
reading Lionel Dumond's
September, 2002
article in Recording Magazine, entitled "Metering & Gain
Staging." It's a great and much-needed article. Gain
staging seems to be hard to grasp for the recording newcomer, and
yet it is something that must be mastered to get great recordings.
Mr. Dumond does a great job making this area understandable. |
The Decibel |
Mr. Drumond stated that, "a proper treatise on
decibels would take up an entire article on its own." I have
an article called "Decibel: The Hardest & Most Important Term In
Audio" that was written for paid Alexander Magazine subscribers.
As additional reading for Recording Magazine readers, we are posting
this article for your study during September, 2002. |

| The article also covers the
differences between the "professional" and "consumer's" standard
level. I've included a excerpt from my text, "How Live Sound
Works" that covers this same subject. |
