STATE OF THE
MAGAZINES - 2001 |
(www.recordingeq.com
BY ROBERT DENNIS |
|
|
| April of 1998, I posted the
first issue of Recording Engineer's Quarterly to the Web. Since that moment, I have
been publishing training in the subject of recording engineering to the Web.
Even though we are "magazines" posting "news" and
"articles," Recording Engineer's Quarterly and Alexander Magazine have had
"main purpose" of providing education and training in the field of music
recording & production. |
| Every year in January we
hear "addresses" on the state of things. The President gives one on the
country. The governor the "state of the State" address and Steve Case
posts an article on the state of AOL. In this posting I'm trying to let you know
what we have accomplished up through the beginning of 2001 and where we want to get to by
the end of 2001, so I called this post the "State Of The Magazines -2001." |
| The Numbers: |
| Including both sites
(recordingeq.com and alexandermagazine.com) we have had in excess of one million hits.
The lowest level "student" is a registered free subscriber that has
access to demonstration study modules and archived articles - to date we have over 4050
such users. Fairly recently we have offered complete theory training on the first
RID campus course free of charge to subscribers (over a 12 month period) - so far we have
over a dozen such students. Paid subscribers to Alexander Magazine have full access
to our training postings and are able to study 5 different online study modules and access
over 300 other in-depth modules online (including the theory for three campus courses) -
to date we have over 70 such students. |
| By the end of 2001 we
expect to have over 1.6 million hits, over 6000 registered free users, over 2000 students
studying course content over 12 months and over 300 full-access students. The full access
students are expected to have an additional 300 articles and three more major online
study modules (in excess of 2000 "pages" of material - if all of the postings
were printed out). |
| The Recording 'Cyclopedia |
| Alexander Magazine is
releasing a CD-ROM entitled "Recording Cylopedia" V2.0. It basically has
most of the articles, tips and interactive modules posted to Alexander Magazine and
Recording Engineer's Quarterly through December, 2000. It can be used by the
subscriber for "high speed" study with having to deal with the slow night on the
crowded net. Subscribers can still get the postings done later than this date over
the net. The Recording Cylopedia disk will be shipped to all 2001 US subscribers at
no charge (foreign subscribers must pay a $15 foreign postage fee). It is
available to past subscribers as an update for $49 + $10 shipping ($15 foreign). The
order form will be posted with the next REQ magazine (expected 2/1/01) |

|
Recording
'Cylopedia V2.0 |
|
| Because of working on the
Recording 'Cylopedia, we moved back the next publication date of REQ to 2/1/00. |
| Offices Not Hooked Up Yet |
| When we moved our offices
to Warren, we ordered high speed net access and 800 MHz computers. Neither is yet
available even though we thought we were a week away for the last month. Bear with
us and our late postings. We expect to be "Back On Track" shortly. |
| Sincerely |
| Bob Dennis |
