TRAINING IN YOUR UNDERWEAR

BY ROBERT DENNIS

Using the Internet wisely can mean that much of your study time can be at home in front of your computer.  Your computer doesn't mind your manner of dress or undress.

Recording Institute of Detroit has begun posting training materials to the web with its launch of its Pro Audio Specialist Course.  The demo has been posted and the entire module is due online within a month.  It's the first of several that will be posted by RID within the next year.  For a small fee you can study course content until you know the theory.

The Recording Institute of Detroit decided that it could use online study to dramatically shorten student attendance at campus for full course certification.  Course curriculum is now set up so that you can study on-line and then come into the school for practical, in-studio, classes and take the official course final exam.  The online study cuts time in school down to as low as 25% - great for those far away.

Online study has its drawbacks.  Its more work to study the theory alone by itself without the in-studio time.  It's harder but may make the study possible for those with time or financial restraints. Online study also has its advantages.   There is a world of resources out there on the net.  If you're studying about microphones, you can view microphones, read specification sheets, find out what other instructors say about microphones, chat about mics, etc...
