GETTING A DISTINCT ADVANTAGE IN MUSIC |

But it's more than the student
status that is giving the Gift their edge. There is the talent, the musical
drive. The group has been playing together since they were "little kids."
Jeremy has written over 300 tunes in his bedroom on his four track. The band
has performed at parties and fairs for several years. There were talented enough to
take a prize at a 4H fair and get a check for $100.00. Ultimately it will be
the drive and the persistence of the group that will make them attractive to a record
label. Jeremy Lafferty (guitars/vocals) and Josh Lafferty (drums) are brothers; Kevin (bass) is a lifelong friend. The Lafferty father feels that the band is easy to work with because both of his sons were into sports (wrestling). Mr. Lafferty feels that sports causes young people to show respect to those in charge and helps them develop an ability to follow directions. Their producer calles it co-operation and is one of the reasons he enjoys producing the group. Luck certainly has its part in Gift's "positioning" in the industry. It was lucky that the Recording Institute of Detroit needed band demos to release on interactive training courses. This allowed a deal to be cut so that the band can release professional masters, without paying for the studio charges. It got RID Executive Dick Wagner involved with the group.
