THE "CONNECTION" ISSUE

FROM THE EDITOR

September 11th was a shock to us all.  Different people had different reactions.  Ours was to make some music.  The staff of REQ, along with our rhythm & beat guru, Muruga Booker recorded, mixed and mastered a CD entitled "Find the Love and Peace Inside."  Information will shortly be posted to www.musartusa.com
We also helped start an Upload/Download for Justice, Freedom & Peace program with Muruga UFM.  Details at www.recordingeq.com/ufm/index.html.
Some connections for training in the recording arts have a bit of static.  We pride ourselves in our static-free, no bulls**t approach to recording training.  Every 6 weeks we post new articles about recording and they're free.   If you register, as 6000 readers of this magazine have, you can get a complete basic knowledge about recording over 8 issues, again free.   If you want complete theory training about recording and production, you can subscribe to Alexander MagazineTM and get all of the course materials of an 18 month licensed training program for under $300 - and you have two full years to study it.   As an added bonus you get free job placement assistance, worldwide.
Starting shortly, Alexander Magazine subscribers will be able to take Recording Institute of Detroit examinations online and get a certificate of completed online the theory study.  This service is described in the article entitled, called RECORDING INSTITUTE OF DETROIT - A NEW MILLENNIUM SCHOOL
With this issue we are pleased to announce the opening of our connection.  Unlike other connections, we won't "mentor you" into thinking you are learning something by paying a demo studio engineer to give you 20 half-hour lessons for a charge exceeding $3000.  Instead we'll show you how to actually get a recognized competency certificate in the recording arts for a fraction of this cost.
We are please to announce the posting of our sister publication, Recording Jobs Connection News at www.recordingjobsconnection.com.  The site will update frequently and become an invaluable resource to those who want to start out in our industry.
But the biggest part of our connection is the posting of articles about recording and production techniques.  We haven't neglected this mandate with this issue.  Assistant Editor, Dan Dennis has a killer review on a Shure Beta series microphone for the kick drum; home recording editor, Ken Lanyon, has an article on phase - a must know concept for anyone trying to record.   I contribute an article giving additional information able bass clarity in mixing, while our Michigan Music editor, PT Quinn gives us interesting photos and advice on getting the shots as a music photographer.
Tom Gelardi also joins us this month with an article about promotion that is particularly applicable as face the aftermath of September 11th.
