Complete Theory Training Over 8 Issues

BY ROBERT DENNIS

Over two years ago I authored my first interactive training module for audio training.  It is called the Pro Audio Specialist Training Module.  The module is arranged in 57 lessons of the very basics of audio - the minimum that a person would have to know to get started in the field of audio recording or live sound mixing.  The module contains a complete glossary, quizzes, audio demos to get the user to attain this basic knowledge.
It was also designed to be a companion to a 3 class seminar actually taught in the studio.  With the study of the theory (with the interactive module) and attendance at the seminars (that can be delivered over a weekend) the student would actually be able to be certified as trained for entry level in the many basic industry jobs.  The combination of theory study and seminar attendance is a licensed by the Michigan Department of Education as a vocational course in audio, delivered by the Recording Institute of Detroit.
Over the last couple of years over 3000 students have registered with REQ, allowing them to study a few (5) of these lessons on equalization to teach them about this subject and to introduce them to the full module.   As a result, several dozen students have studied the full module by purchasing an interactive CD-ROM or by purchase of online training.   This PAS module is one of the several interactive modules that students can study after purchasing a subscription to Alexander Magazine ( available through www.recordinginstitute.com   ).
We have edited the entire PAS module into 8 parts - each part containing 7-8 lessons of the module.  Beginning August 1, 2000, [Delayed until 9/4/00], REQ subscribers and registered students can study the entire module for no charge by simply revisiting the training demonstration site each time that a new REQ issue posts (one posts every 6 weeks for 8 issues a year).  The site will contain the current 7 lesson section and last issue's section (to allow students to review what they studied previously).  Students will get the password to the new section by e-mail as the new issue posts.
There is no charge to qualify.  There is a form to fill out to register free as an REQ subscriber/REQ online user.  You will also need to notify us if you should change your e-mail address.
Students wishing to complete their training and get certified as complete on the licensed course can take the weekend Pro Audio Specialist seminars.  Information about this year's seminar is in the current article entitled RID TO HOLD ONE WEEKEND RECORDING SEMINAR IN AUGUST - next year we will be holding other seminars.
