FROM THE EDITOR

JULY, 2000

Someday we'll actually get one of our issues out by the due date for the publication.  I have said it before, and now must remind the reader again that with us content is the king and publication dates are secondary.   It's now 7/20/00 and we are posting the 7/15/00 issue.  I have a good idea about when we will get one out on time - we are getting an Assistant Webmaster on 9/100, so maybe by the October issue...
We want to welcome world famous Muruga Booker to the staff of REQ as our new Drum and Percussion Columnist.  You will begin to get the picture of why Muruga is joining us by reading my report on his recent talk to our Advanced Recording class at RID.  The name of the article is OBTAINING THE BEST QUALITY RECORDING and is on the subject of how the musician and his/her instrument affects recording quality.
Two articles this issue are on web based training and turning the training into an actual course certificate.  These articles are called RID TO HOLD ONE WEEKEND RECORDING SEMINAR IN AUGUST and EXPANDED FREE REQ WEB TRAINING.
The article that is my favorite is our Michigan Music Contributing Editor's exclusive interview with George Clinton where he tells REQ that he is moving his musical home back to Michigan.  PT Quinn's interview is entitled George Clinton Speaks.
Keeping up with the technical recording articles, we have part 2 of Ken Lanyon's Understanding MIDI series, and my contribution on getting bass clarity in the mix.  The articles are entitled UNDERSTANDING MIDI - Part 2 and OBTAINING BASS CLARITY. Registered subscribers and online students can also access a tutorial about using MIDI for songwriting, even though you are a total dummy when it comes to music.
In the area of new recording equipment, you should check out my report on my June visit to Yamaha, called REQ EDITOR'S TOUR OF YAMAHA.
The Industry information article, called SIXTEEN GOLD/PLATINUM AWARDS ROCK MID MICHIGAN talks about my favorite guitarist/songwriter - Richard Wagner.
Last but not least, we have added another regular column entitled OUR MOTOWN RECORDING HERITAGE.  This issue we re-posted a story about "LITTLE STEVIE" WONDER when he was 13 years old.  We have new articles on Motown in its heyday on the drawing board.
So I hope that you, the readers, enjoy this issue as much as I have enjoyed putting it together for you.   And, good recording!
