FIRST ONLINE RECORDING SCHOOL SUPPORTS IT'S ROOTS

BY ROBERT DENNIS

The Recording Institute Of Detroit is making an interesting offer to City Of Detroit high school students in music or media curriculum.  The Offer goes like this "Get an A and Get An Online   Course."  Through Funding by the John Philippe Mario Scholarship Fund and the Danan L. Potts Scholarship Fund, the institute will offer free online training in music recording and production  to each  Detroit Public School student getting a final grade of "A" in their music or media classes for the 2000-2001 school year.  Students are awarded a two-year online study subscription to students in 5 recording and production courses offered by The Recording Institute Of Detroit.
The online RID study, through Alexander Magazine, allows the student to bypass between 40% and 50% of the RID campus attendance requirements by "placing out" of selected classes by exam.  To get certified as complete on the campus courses students must take the practical "hands-on" portion of the training.
To make sure that the leading music and media students actually get fully- certified on a course, the ten best students will be offered free attendance at weekend recording courses during July, 2001 to meet all certification requirements of RID's Pro Audio Specialist program.
To assist the high school students interested in music recording and production, RID will be submitting a formal proposal to the Detroit Public Schools Curriculum Services Department. RID will be offering licenses to schools holding these types of classes that allow interactive study of the Pro Audio Specialist study module to students in the school library facilities.  Thus the students can become well-prepared for the recording classes being scheduled in the summer break after the next school year.
The Recording Institute of Detroit and the John Phillipe Marino Scholarship fund are doing this to help Detroit maintain its reputation of being a leader in the music and recording fields, worldwide.  The funds to start the John Phillipe Marino Scholarship Fund were donated by the family of a successful RID Graduate who passed early in his career.  The funds were specifically donated to help Detroit Public School students get a head-start in the music and recording field.   Danan Potts was a former Detroit Public Schools instructor.   Publishing royalties from his works are used to fund the scholarship fund.
