It was 1996 and I was new to the net
when I came across "the mining company" and Kevin Becka's site called
"Home Recording." My school, Recording Institute of Detroit, had
one of those sites up that never changed and I was personally learning
how the net worked with AOL. I was so intrigued with Kevin's
"Lesson of The Week" for the net surfers that I soon emulated him with
my "Tip of The Week Series." - tied into my favorite site, The Recording
Website. I began to post a "Tip of the week" which was linked
weekly at recording website instead of posting answers to dozens and
dozens of questions that were all similar on individual threads.
Besides being a web columnist Ken was a lecturer at the Conservatory of
Recording in Phoenix, Arizona.
In addition to posting the lesson of the week, Kevin
browsed the net for sites about audio and wound up linking my Tip of The
Week and REQ magazine article postings a few times. Kevin is one
of the few "good guys" in the industry who will be happy to tell you
what he knows if it will help you get better in the industry.
Kevin went on to work as an editor for a couple of
industry magazines and did some independent engineering and production.
Today he is back at the Conservatory, this time as an associate Director
of Education and is also the technical editor for Mix Magazine.
Interestingly enough, I'm, still running RID and now I own The Recording
Website. It seems like we are back to where we started except
maybe on a higher plane.
At Mix Magazine Kevin has put together a video seminar
on the subject of drum micing. This is a seminar that I think all
recording enthusiasts should view. He also begins a series of
articles on micing for recording in the January Issue of Mix Magazine.
To view his seminar you will need to fill out a survey about your
project studio and interest - but as soon as you submit the survey you
will be able to view the seminar. |
